Bernadine Leiker, 80, of Great Bend, died Oct. 21 (2008) at Great Bend. She was born May 20, 1928, in Russell County, the daughter of John and Rosa Mermis Jacobs. Bernadine married Richard LEIKER. He died Aug. 10, 1987. Survivors include three daughters, Alice Kerr and husband Jim of Larned, Mary Jane Leiker of Great Bend and Donna Graf and husband Leonard W. of Beloit; a son, Wayne Leiker and wife Karen of Holton; a sister, Mary Schmeidler of Hays; a brother, Louis Jacobs of Gorham; seven grand-children and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Alfred Jacobs, Edwin Jacobs, Marvin Jacobs and her twin, Bernard Jacobs

JANTZEN, LOUIS J. 1889-1924 - Louis J Jantzen, formerly of Okeene, but who was living at Nowater, Oklahoma, received injuries in an accident Sunday morning January 20, 1924, which resulted in his death a few hours later. According to the information we received, Mr. Jantzen was building a fire and started to pour some coal oil in the stove from a five gallon can, containing about a half gallon of coal oil. The can exploded with great force, breaking all the windows in the room and blowing the dishes off of the table. Part of the can struck Mr. Jantzen in the stomach and it was thought that this was his fatal injury. He was married and leaves one child besides his wife and other relatives. He was 34 years of age.

Joseph died Sun., Oct. 12, 2008, at the Inola at the age of 81.  The son of Simon Peter and Philbena (Jantz) Janz was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Carniege, OK. Married Dorothy Darlene PENNER in the Herold Mennonite Church at Bessie, OK. Joseph is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 2005; his parents; sister, Verna Janz; and grandchildren: Julianne Janz and Pistal Crane.  He is survived by his children: Rosalie Walton and husband, Scott of Inola, Daniel Janz of Tulsa, David Janz and wife, Miharti of Claremore, Gloria Janz of Tulsa, and Dale Janz and wife, Angela of Inola; grandchildren: Matt and Joe Walton, Rachel Crane, Hunter, Jordan, Brielle, and LoriAnne Janz; great-grandchildren: Gage and Jada Crane; sisters: Winnona Jantzen and husband, Elmer of Kingman KS, Vera Jackson of Lawton, and Loritha Boone of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
