Al was the only son of Pastor Hellmuth and Helena (Tieszen) Ortmann, who had four girls before him. Married K. LENORE K. DIETZ. Preceded in death by his parents (June and July of 1972); and sisters Mildred, Martha and Mathilda. Survivors include sister Hilda; sweetheart Lenore, of over 53 years; and their children, Sandra (Brad) Bradbeer, Allen (Sue) Ortmann, Melanie (Rich) Schwartz, Tim (June) Ortmann, James/Leroy Ortmann, Lynette Saunders and Angela (Jim) Grimstad, as well as 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Married JACK SMIDT. He died in March 2000. They had two children, Jerry Smidt and Marilyn Olson, both of Butte. Mr. Smidt had four children: Dolly Aamold, Earl Smidt, Leo Smidt and Shirley Britton, all of Butte. Mr. Smidt died in March 2000. Survivors include her children, stepchildren and grandchildren, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and brothers and sisters, John Ott, Val Ott, Ann Rekdahl and Mike Ott.
